WFMZ 69 News: Performers in Berks prepare for production of ‘The Nutcracker’

For 47 seasons, the Berks Ballet Theater has presented “The Nutcracker.” “The Nutcracker is our big winter holiday performance,” said Nathan Bland, owner of Berks Ballet Theater Conservatory of Dance. And this year is the first time it’s been held at Kutztown University. “Seeing the dancers be able to let go and enjoy the performance is just a magical moment,” said Bland.

And it’s no easy task. The performers work for weeks and hours on-end, perfecting their every move, for every show. “It’s so magical, there’s so many parts and there’s scenery, props, there’s all types of magic. There’s so much work but our job is to make it look effortless and easy,” said Aaron Smyth, Professional Ballet Dancer in The Nutcracker.

“Its a very rewarding experience and I wouldn’t trade it for anything,” said Ellie Folga, senior at Wyomissing. And the team behind the scenes says when that curtain opens and the lights go on, it all pays off.
