Darby’s Dancers • Anyone Can be a Star!
Berks Ballet Theatre Conservatory of Dance is proud to partner with Darby’s Dancers a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing dance classes to children with special needs at no cost to their parents. We will be offering a 30-minute dance/movement based class to children of all ages with special needs. Something we love about this program is every student in the program is paired with the same dancer/volunteer each week. This allows both parties to create a relationship and learn from each other.
Darby’s Dancers Mission Statement:
“To provide dance education to children with special needs at no cost to their families and offer a foundation for inclusion with other dancers within an established dance organization.Dancers in the program gain confidence, coordination, strength and lifelong friends, all while feeling like a star. DD also provides volunteer opportunities for teens. Our youth volunteers learn important lessons in responsibility and friendship by providing one-on-one assistance to each of Darby’s dancers.“
The program will be lead by BBTCD alum Elizabeth Henry. Miss Elizabeth is a West Chester University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Early Grades Preparation and Special Education. She currently is heading into her 2nd year of teaching Intermediate Autistic Support at French Creek Elementary School. Prior to heading off to college, she danced with Berks Ballet Conservatory of Dance and was a part of the BBT senior company. She started dancing at the age of three and continued with the studio until she was 18.
“I have loved everything about being a part of this organization and the productions they produce. Dance has always been a passion of mine, as well as working with students in the special education community. I am excited to continue being involved with Berks Ballet Theatre Conservatory of Dance and to be a part of this new and exciting program.”
Berks Ballet Theatre Conservatory of Dance will be providing the studio space, staffing and uniforms as well as costumes for our year-end performance. To do so we will be hosting a couple of fundraisers in the coming months as well as asking for small donations to help support the Program
