4 Reasons Why You’ll Love the “The Nutcracker”

It’s the week of the show! The holiday season is filled with so much fun–holiday parties, gatherings, family, friends and more. This year, visitors and residents of Berks County and beyond are getting in the holiday spirit and will make their way to The Scottish Rite Cathedral in West Reading to see “The Nutcracker.” Here are four reasons why you’ll love the show happening December 14 & 15:

1. Memorable Music

You can’t help but feel the holiday spirit when you hear Tchaikovsky’s memorable score. The classic songs like Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, March of the Toy Soldiers, Waltz of the Flowers and more really exude holiday magic. The Reading Pops Orchestra brings each note to life for all three performances.

2. New Costumes & Sets

A great deal of love and hard work is put into each and every costume and set piece featured on stage. This year the Dew Drop Fairy gets a new look as well as one of the party scene Dolls, the Snow Queen and King and Arabian! Clara’s throne in the Land of Sweets also gets a massive update by master woodworker, Brian Obst. Check out a sneak peek of the throne in progress below.

3. Tradition

The holidays are about being surrounded by family, friends, and tradition.  If you go every year, you’ll understand the magic that fills the theatre. Perhaps you haven’t gone in a while? Well, this year is the perfect time to restart. Check out a recent article about how “The Nutcracker” has become a “family tradition in more ways than one” in Berks County Living. Read article

4. Dancers

Our company dancers and conservatory students range in age from 5 – 17 and have been working tirelessly for the last three months. The passion, joy, and talent they have for ballet and this show shines each time they take the stage. They will be joined by several guest dancers from Ballet X, Dance Theater of Harlem and others, who will amaze with their talent. And this year, don’t miss company senior and Berks County’s Outstanding Young Woman 2020, Ahna Romanski, perform the role of Snow Queen!
