Classes at Berks Ballet Theatre are organized by curriculum or level, which is assessed by age group.


Tiny Dancers

For 18 months – 3 years old. Mommy + Me class is a wonderful bonding experience and a great way to expose your child to music and movement! This will be a 6 week class starting September 17, running through October 22, 2016. There will be a Winter and Spring sessions as well. It’s $75 per session.

Overview
Creative Movement is about cultivating each students natural tendencies to move / dance. It’s channeling those energies into fun, but lightly structured movement to begin to get ready for Pre-Ballet and Beginning Tap.

Young Dancers

Overview

In Pre – Ballet 1 we begin to build the foundation of classical ballet. Learning the proper French terminology for each step and instilling the structure of a ballet class. All the while still keeping the class energetic and fun. We also introduce them to the basics of Tap dancing which helps them to build rhythm.

Overview

In Pre – Ballet 2 we continue to build upon the foundation for classical ballet that we started in Pre – Ballet 1 while introducing more French terminology and expanding their knowledge of ballet steps. Beginner Tap 2 expands on what they learned in Beginner Tap 1 and takes their tapping skills to the next level.

Overview

In Pre – Ballet 3 we continue to build upon the foundation for classical ballet while introducing more French terminology and expanding their knowledge of ballet steps. Beginner Tap 3 will teach them more intricate patterns and Beginner Jazz will be introduced laying the foundation for complicated jazz combos.

Overview

Ballet 1 follows a syllabus outlined by Conservatory Director Nathan Bland. It’s designed to train each student properly in classical ballet, keeping in mind their natural skeletal structure. By properly training the young dancers muscles we are able to elevate to the next level of ballet training at a healthy, structured pace.

Ballet 2 is a continuation of Ballet 1a following a syllabus outlined by Conservatory Director Nathan Bland. It’s designed to train each student properly in classical ballet, keeping in mind their natural skeletal structure. By properly training the young dancers muscles we are able to elevate to the next level of ballet training at a healthy, structured pace. Ballet 2 attends class twice a week to build upon the foundation laid in Ballet 1a.

Pre-Professional

Overview

Ballet 3 is the first level of the Conservatory’s Pre-Professional Division. Once you have completed the previous levels, or been placed in this level, we feel you are ready to take your training to the next level.

In Ballet Level 3  attention is paid to the proper extension of the legs and shape of the feet, developing movement sequences, port de bras and balance.

Jazz will be continued in this level and Modern 1 will be introduced into the schedule.

Students will see an increased difficulty at the barre and in the center combinations. Students begin focus on repetition and retention. This class meets three times a week.

Overview

In Ballet Level 3a attention is paid to the proper extension of the legs and shape of the feet, developing movement sequences, port de bras and balance.

Pre-Pointe is incorporated into the syllabus when the faculty feels a dancer is strong enough and is at least 11 years of age.

Students will see an increased difficulty at the barre and in the center combinations. Students begin focus on repetition and retention.

Overview

Ballet 4 training becomes much more serious. Classes will focus on pointe work, pirouettes, use of the head and upper body, fluidity of port de bras as well as the intricacies of small and large jumps.

Details

  • This class meets three times a week. Once a week is a two hour class that incorporates pointe work into the class.
  • It’s strongly suggested to take Open Class on Fridays from 4:00 – 5:30*

Overview

Once you reach Ballet 5, training becomes much more rigorous. Classes will focus on pointe work(with full classes on pointe), multiple pirouettes, fluidity of movement as well as the intricacies of small and large jumps.

  • It’s strongly suggested to take Open Class on Fridays from 4:00 – 5:30*

Overview

Ballet 7 classes are for the advanced ballet student. Only those who have a strong mastery of pointe work are placed in Ballet 7. This class will pay attention to fine details, use of the upper body, breath of movement and expression as well as an increasingly advanced repertory of steps.

  • This class meets 3 days a week with all classes at 2+ hours in length.
  • It is strongly suggested students take Open Class on Fridays from 4:00 – 5:30*
